Pay Me Fairly

Can salary structure be transparent when workforce is globalized?

Remote work is really difficult, and I think most of us are still wrapping our heads around how to make it work, no matter what level you are in the corporate. Who doesn't want to have flexible working hours, good culture, supportive team members, career opportunities, a sense of belonging, work with enough amount of challenges, and fair pay that can support us to live an abundant life outside of work?

It's difficult but it's not impossible. There are more and more companies operating in a fully remote setup, they've paved the road, and shared their findings along the way.

Remote work is becoming a community project, as more and more people start to share their experiences either success or failure, it all takes us on a future that we all look forward to and expect to pull off.

Slite is one of the remote first companies that I really admire. I subscribe to their newsletter and always find hope that remote work could work, and try to bring the suggestion back to the company I worked for.

I might be having little influence, but if I can help spread the word to make the remote community stronger, then there will be more people can enjoy the benefits of remote work.

To make the world become more inclusive, a transparent pay structure is essential to building a remote work community. We might not get equal pay since the world has its own way to operate and that's not in our control. Until then, at least everyone deserves to get paid fairly on a transparent standard.

The standard itself might still be sort of subjective undoubtedly, but it's written and visible to everybody. And as more and more standards become visible, we can start to learn from each other, and maybe, in the future we would have a common standard that the majority will feel satisfied with.
